Can You Take Seashells Out of Dubai? Souvenirs You Shouldn’t Pack in Your Suitcase…

Fancy taking a bit of beach with you from Dubai? Beware! Not every souvenir is legal…

You know the feeling: you stand barefoot on the golden sand of Jumeirah Beach, the sun still warming your skin, and you spot a perfect, shiny shell. Small, beautiful. You think to yourself: “This will be my piece of Dubai for winter evenings in Poland .” But did you know that such a souvenir can cost you a lot?

In this post I clear up any doubts: what is allowed, what is not allowed, and how to avoid trouble at customs. Plus – I throw in some legal, original and absolutely Instagrammable souvenirs from Dubai!

Seashells from Dubai – can you take them?

In short, without beating around the bush: it is not advisable to take shells, sand or coral from Dubai’s beaches. And while you can take them out of Dubai, it is illegal to bring them into the European Union.
Why?

  • Dubai (and the entire UAE) protects nature – even seashells are part of the marine ecosystem.
  • Many beaches are located in reserves or under ecological protection.
  • The airport is very vigilant in its controls. Tourists caught can be fined (up to AED 500) or… lose their shell before they even have a chance to show it to their grandmother.

👉 My advice: take a photo of a seashell with palm trees and the Burj Al Arab in the background, and pack something in your suitcase that doesn’t raise any doubts.

Many beautiful sea shells on white background, top view

What souvenirs from Dubai are legal and worth the money?

Instead of taking your chances at the border, choose something from this list. These souvenirs are stylish, legal, and… Instagram-worthy.

1. Gold from Gold Souk – a trend worthy item

In the Deira souk you will find jewelry that sparkles like Dubai at night. Prices start at around AED 500 for a delicate bracelet, but you have to haggle hard.
📸 Tip: Take a picture next to the giant ring (the largest in the world!).

2. Arabian Perfumes – The Scent of the Orient

In Ajmal or Swiss Arabian you can buy unique perfumes in oil – durability? 12 hours minimum. Small bottles cost from 60 AED.

3. Dates from the luxury Bateel factory

Don’t confuse them with the supermarket ones – these almond-filled, chocolate-covered ones are culinary art. Price: from around AED 80 for an elegant package.

4. Shawls and abayas from local boutiques

If you shop in Al Fahidi or Al Seef Market, you can find a hand-embroidered abaya for as little as AED 250. Watch out – this is a great story style!

5. Ceramics and Mosaics from Al Quoz

Art galleries like The Workshop offer handmade pottery and tiles, starting at AED 80.

What not to bring from Dubai – a list of prohibited “souvenirs”

Better leave it where it is:

    • Corals – even those lying loose
    • Antiques and artifacts – you can’t export them without a document of origin
    • Protected animals and plants

What is worth buying at Dubai International Airport (DXB)?

Got too many dirhams? Here are 3 proven duty free hits:

    • Emirati brands perfume sets – perfect for a gift
    • 3D Burj Khalifa Gold Card – from AED 60
    • Halal-certified mini dates – because not everyone knows that they exist!

Finally – my approach to souvenirs

You don’t need a seashell to remember Dubai. The smell of Arabian oud, a cup of desert stones or a photo from the Old Souk will do. And if you want something absolutely unique – capture a moment, not an object.

✈️ What about you? What did you bring back from Dubai? Let me know in the comments – I wonder if anyone has an even more unusual souvenir than… a spice set in the shape of the Burj Khalifa!

When you compare Emirates’ carry-on baggage standards with other airlines, you’ll notice that Emirates offers fairly generous allowances. Many other airlines have more restrictive restrictions, both in terms of size and weight.

Hand luggage rules

Emirates’ hand luggage policy is carefully designed to ensure safe and comfortable travel for all passengers. To ensure you comply with the hand luggage regulations, there are a few key guidelines to keep in mind regarding the number and type of items permitted.

You are usually permitted to carry one piece of hand luggage on board an Emirates flight, depending on your class of travel. The hand luggage regulations also set out specific guidelines regarding the weight and dimensions of your luggage, which must not be exceeded to avoid additional charges.

In order to ensure your safety, Emirates has introduced guidelines for the carriage of certain items. Sharp or dangerous items, as well as certain liquids, cannot be included in your carry-on baggage. Prohibited and restricted items must be declared in accordance with Emirates’ carry-on baggage policy.

In some cases, Emirates allows you to carry additional items, such as a laptop or a shopping bag. Special permissions and exemptions may also apply to medications and medical products that are required during the flight. It is worth checking the full Emirates regulations in advance to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

Emirates Hand Luggage – Current Regulations

Planning a trip with Emirates requires knowing the specific rules regarding carry-on baggage. Current Emirates baggage regulations may vary depending on the class of travel, but the basic rules remain the same.

It is important to know how many kg of hand luggage you can take on board with Emirates . As standard, Economy Class passengers can have one piece of hand luggage weighing up to 7 kg, while Business and First Class passengers can have two pieces of hand luggage, each weighing up to 7 kg.

To comply with Emirates’ hand luggage regulations , it is also necessary to take into account the requirements for carrying electronics, liquids and other specific items. Laptops, tablets and other electronic devices must be presented separately at security. Liquids must be packed in containers of no more than 100 ml and placed in a transparent, resealable plastic bag of no more than one liter.

Knowing the latest Emirates baggage regulations and packing your hand luggage appropriately will help you avoid unpleasant surprises at the airport and ensure a smooth and comfortable journey. Always check the latest information directly on the official Emirates website before each trip.

Putting important items like documents or electronics in easy-to-access pockets will help with quick and easy checks.

It is also worth considering purchasing products that will make your journey easier. A cable and charger organizer, a passport case or travel-size cosmetics are great solutions. Well-prepared hand luggage from Emirates will significantly improve travel comfort, especially on longer flights.

Following these tips will make your travel with Emirates more comfortable and stress-free. Remember that the hand luggage for Emirates travellers should be well planned to meet all the requirements of the airline and your individual needs.

How much does it really cost to live and travel in Dubai?

Dubai, known for its luxury and extravagance, often raises many questions about the costs of daily living and traveling. In this section, we will take you through the basic expenses, such as the cost of living in Dubai , food in Dubai , and transportation in Dubai . You will learn about the average rental prices, where to look for cheap eats, and which transportation options are most beneficial for tourists and residents.

Cost of living and travel in Dubai

Dubai is a city that attracts tourists from all over the world with its wealth and diverse attractions. However, the cost of living and traveling in Dubai can vary significantly depending on your lifestyle and budget.

Housing is one of the most important factors influencing the cost of living. Renting an apartment in the city centre can be quite expensive, but there are also cheaper options outside the main business districts. On average, a one-bedroom apartment in Bur Dubai costs around AED 4,500 per month.

When it comes to food, Dubai offers a wide range of restaurants, from luxury establishments to mid-range restaurants and more affordable options. For example, a meal at a mid-range restaurant will cost you around AED 100-150 per person. For those who prefer to cook at home, shopping at supermarkets like Carrefour or Spinneys can be a bit cheaper.

Transportation in Dubai is well-developed, but taxis and car rentals are often the preferred means of transportation. The Dubai Metro is also a great option, especially for those traveling between the city’s main attractions. A single metro ticket costs between AED 3 and 8, depending on the zone.

Exploring Dubai is another important part of your trip. Visiting the Burj Khalifa or the Dubai Mall is a must-see, but it can also be a bit pricey. For example, a ticket to the Burj Khalifa observation deck costs around AED 150. For a more budget-friendly option, strolling through the historic Al Fahidi district or visiting the Gold Souk can be just as interesting.

In conclusion, the cost of living and travel in Dubai depends largely on individual preferences and how you manage your expenses. Regardless of your budget, the city offers options for everyone, from luxury options to more economical options.

Current Living Expenses in Dubai

Dubai is known for its luxurious lifestyle, which translates into higher prices in Dubai . Housing costs are a significant expense, especially if you move to popular areas like the Marina or Downtown. Monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment can start at AED 5,000 (approximately PLN 5,000), with larger apartments reaching even higher amounts.

Monthly utility bills such as electricity, water and gas typically run around AED 800-1,200. It’s important to keep these expenses in mind when planning your budget in Dubai. Food costs vary depending on your shopping preferences. Premium items in large supermarkets such as Carrefour and Spinneys command higher prices, while local markets can be more affordable.

Maintaining a comfortable life in Dubai also includes healthcare, transportation, and education if you have children. Health insurance can range from AED 600 per month, depending on the plan. Restaurant dining costs vary from affordable prices in cafes to high-end dining in luxury restaurants.

When considering how to optimize your spending, it’s worth considering different aspects of your lifestyle. This could include choosing less popular neighborhoods to live in, shopping at local markets, and using public transportation instead of taxis. Understanding how Dubai prices affect your finances is key when planning your stay in this surprising city.

Budget for a trip to Dubai

Planning a budget for a trip to Dubai may seem complicated, but with the right preparation you can significantly reduce the cost of your trip to Dubai without sacrificing comfort and attractions. Let’s start with the most important elements:

Flights: Depending on the season and airline, airfare prices can vary significantly. It is worth following promotions and planning your ticket purchases in advance.

Accommodation: Dubai offers a wide range of hotels, from luxury to more affordable options. Booking in advance or using discount platforms can help you find great deals.

Attractions: Dubai is known for its impressive attractions, such as the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and Palm Jumeirah. Tickets to these places can be expensive, but many attractions offer discounts when purchased online.

Savings can also come from well-planned transportation. Using the Dubai Metro is convenient and inexpensive compared to taxis. To optimize your budget for your trip to Dubai , you can get tourist cards that combine transportation with entry to some attractions.

By analyzing the cost of traveling to Dubai in detail , you can better plan your expenses. Remember that the budget for traveling to Dubai will depend on the selected periods and individual preferences of travelers.

Dubai price comparison with other cities

Comparing Dubai prices to other global cities can provide valuable insight into the differences in cost of living and travel. Dubai is often seen as a luxury city, but how does it compare directly to places like London, New York, or Tokyo?

Renting an apartment in central Dubai is on average more expensive than Tokyo, but cheaper compared to London and New York. When it comes to food costs, Dubai offers a wide range of options, from cheap meals at local restaurants to exclusive dinners at renowned establishments. In this respect, it is comparable to New York, but slightly more expensive than Tokyo and London.

Tourist services and attractions also vary in cost. Ticket prices for attractions such as the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall can be similar to those in New York, but higher than in Tokyo and London. Dubai also offers unique attractions on a global scale, which can increase its appeal despite its higher prices.

From a cost perspective, Dubai is at the top of the list for both luxury experiences and everyday expenses. However, when considering other aspects of life and travel, Dubai offers unique opportunities compared to other cities and is worth considering as a potential destination or place to live.
